A Columbia College alumnus has accused her former professor, the Indian-origin best-selling writer, Sheena Iyengar, of gender-based discrimination.
In accordance with the New York Publish, Elizabeth Blackwell, who graduated with a bachelor’s diploma in psychology from Columbia College in 2017, has accused Ms Iyengar, who’s blind, of assigning her demeaning “feminine” jobs like making use of her make-up and reserving eating places.
“These duties included making use of Iyengar’s make-up and reserving eating places for her romantic dates,” Ms Blackwell was quoted as saying.
Ms Blackwell, who filed a lawsuit in opposition to Ms Iyengar, alleged in her criticism that she was given “private and supportive” duties since they have been “higher suited” for the “feminine gender”.’ Compared, Ms Blackwell’s male counterpart “encountered not one of the obstacles that Ms Blackwell was pressured to beat.”
In her lawsuit, Ms Blackwell accused the professor of “disturbing gender-based discrimination conduct and retaliation”. She claimed that Ms Iyengar assigned analysis duties to a male coworker regardless of these duties being unrelated to his job description.
Ms Iyengar is a part of the college at Columbia Enterprise College and can be the writer of the best-selling guide ‘The Artwork Of Selecting’. Ms Blackwell’s contract with the college was terminated in 2019. When she filed a criticism, Ms Iyengar responded by saying that it was she who was being “perpetually bullied”.
“If there was discrimination on this workplace, it was, it’s, the discrimination that I felt as a blind professor who was being perpetually bullied by my worker and doesn’t accommodate the very wants of this place,” Ms Iyengar had stated.
Ms Blackwell claimed that after getting her contract terminated, she discovered it troublesome to land a job and that she needed to cope with a number of psychological health-related points comparable to melancholy, anxiousness and insomnia.
